Serina Thomson is the sole Director of Thomson Family Lawyers. Serina was also formerly one of the founding Directors of a successful family law firm currently operating in Perth. Serina studied at Murdoch University, graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws, after also completing a Bachelor of Psychology in 2004.
Whilst studying, Serina worked both as a volunteer in a law firm, as well as in a Community Legal Centre, gaining experience in family law matters. In the final year of her degree, Serina took a strong interest in family law, working as a Law Clerk in a boutique family law firm where she furthered her experience in the field of Family Law.
After graduating from Murdoch University, Serina worked as an Associate to the Honourable Justice Martin at the Family Court of Western Australia. During this time, Serina undertook legal research and developed a solid understanding of the relevant family law legislation and the practice and procedure of family law in Western Australia, spending time in Court daily to assist the Honourable Justice Martin in special appointments, interim hearings and trials.
In addition to a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Psychology, Serina holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. In June 2010, Serina was admitted into the Register of Practitioners kept at the Registry of the High Court of Australia, entitling her to practice in any Federal Court in Australia.
Serina practices exclusively in all areas of Family Law, including matters involving divorce, property settlement, de facto relationships, spousal maintenance, parenting/care arrangements, relocation, child support and paternity determination matters. Serina also has experience in Family Law appeal cases. Serina also practices in child protection matters as well as violence restraining order matters.
Rochelle graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2014. After obtaining her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from The College of Law in 2015, she was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia that same year.
Whilst completing her law degree, Rochelle worked as a Police Prosecutor from 2007 within the Perth Magistrates Court and developed a special interest working with families within a therapeutic jurisprudential context through the Domestic Violence and Drug Courts.
Rochelle left the Western Australian Police to continue her legal career as a practicing solicitor and brings those years of experience and knowledge, as well as her post admission experience working within boutique law firms, to her legal practice.
Rochelle joined Thomson Family Lawyers in January 2019, and practices in all areas of family law. Along with her understanding of the complexities in matters involving allegations of domestic violence or drug use, her empathetic and compassionate approach ensures her clients can achieve the best possible outcomes for their matter.
Gloria is a Solicitor in the team at Thomson Family Lawyers, working on a part time basis. Gloria graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce in 2009. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2012.
Gloria has worked internationally in corporate law and has experience in all areas of Family Law including divorce, separation, child custody, property settlement, and relocation. Gloria strives to obtain the best possible outcome for her clients and seeks to assist clients in resolving their matters amicably without the need for lengthy court proceedings whenever possible.
Heather is Thomson Family Lawyers’ legal receptionist. Heather has worked in an administration and reception role for four years and has a passion for providing exceptional customer service and assisting clients in a first point-of-contact role. Heather holds a Graduate Diploma in Sustainability and Climate Policy and, when not working at Thomson Family Lawyers, she enjoys volunteering as a wildlife rehabilitator.
Cara is Thomson Family Lawyers’ legal assistant/receptionist. Cara has completed her Diploma in Business and the Law Society’s Essential Legal Assistant Course, whilst also having past experience working in administration and customer service. Commencing her position at Thomson Family Lawyers in early February 2018, Cara looks forward to developing herself within the legal industry and providing clients with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere via her role at Thomson Family Lawyers.
Bonnie is Thomson Family Lawyers’ resident legal assistant and has worked in family law for 6 years. Previously working with Serina in her Perth-based former firm, Bonnie joined the Thomson Family Lawyers team in September 2017. Bonnie has a passion for providing high quality client services and ensuring every client’s family law journey is as smooth as possible. When not working at Thomson Family Lawyers, Bonnie volunteers with On My Feet and St John Ambulance and, having a passion for animals, spends lots of time cuddling her dog, Lexie!
Erika is the Thomson Family Lawyers’ Accounts Manager. Erika has had a broad range of experience covering secretarial, teaching, hospital and medical practice management and accounting. For the last ten years, Erika has been managing trust and general accounting in a number of family law firms. Erika joined Thomson Family Lawyers as a part-time staff member in August 2017.
